Walk for Talk 1998

This initiative took place from September 8-18, 1998. It was a walk across P.E.I. from Tignish Elementary School to Eastern Kings Consolidated. It took nine days and 185 miles, visiting 28 schools along the way. Presenting information on what verbal abuse does and how we may curb incidents of verbal abuse in our schools and society. Since 1998 I have made many presentations to Church Groups, Allied Youth, P.E.I. Home and School Associations, Rotary Clubs, Project Discouvery, and many more.

Awards were presented at the end of the "1998 Walk For Talk" initiative. These awards, which were presented to all School Boards and Districts, here on P.E.I., to help raise awareness of all forms of abuse and violence in our schools and in society.

The "Verbal Abuse-Violence Prevention Achievement Award", is presented annually to the school in the area who raises awareness and educates the school and the public about abuse and violence and its effects.

The dove represents peace, and the lamp of acknowledge represents education. Bringing peace and education together to help reduce incidents of abuse and violence in our school system.

Schools in each board or district across P.E.I. who had been chosen for the Verbal Abuse-Violence Prevention Award have been asked to participate in the web site, by sending drawings of children doing wonderful things, like playing soccer or just sitting under a tree. These drawings will be displayed in different areas of the web site.
